I LOVE  Krispy Kreme doughnuts! About 5 years ago my grandma bought me a $50 gift card for KK (50 bucks, wtf!). I was living in Boston at the time and the Krispy Kreme two blocks from me promply closed its doors (freakin' low carb craze). I was always sad that I didn't have a Krispy Kreme close by, but now that I'm back in Atlanta I have a huge one right on Ponce! sweet!

There's rarely a neon sign that can make you feel better when you see it than the "HOT Doughnuts" sign in the window here. Some people don't like the KK doughnuts as opposed to DD or other places, but I don't think anything compares to the melt-in-your-mouth taste and feel of a hot KK doughnut. Lots of selection here too.

I pity myself for my childhood with Dunkin Donuts. All I had at my disposal was a sad, dry donut with a glaze that doesn't even cover the bottom.

Krispy Kreme's glaze is in every nook and cranny, but even if it wasn't the donut itself can hold its own. Although I'm sure everyone's eaten them, and knows this.

So the store...it's cool because if you're easily entertained you can watch the sheet of glaze covering the donuts as they go through the conveyor belt...a realistic version of Willy Wonka. Mmm.

Watch for the "Hot Donuts Now" sign flashing outside the restaurant. This is the time to make a stop, since it means at least one type of donut is being made at that moment.

There's also goofy Krispy Kreme gear for sale here...I bought someone Krispy Kreme boxer shorts once, in memorial of the day he tried to eat a dozen donuts in one sitting. We don't have to discuss how that turned out.

Don't get me wrong I love Krispy Kreme. But if the hot donut sign ain't on keep moving. I cannot resist the chance to smell the heavenly aroma of donut straight off the line. Or watching the enrober cascading all that sugary goodness over freshly fried delights. However. About half way through the Silver Scream Spook Show Saturday night, the urge for flakey sugar coated treats flooded my brain. So as soon as those credits in kanji appeared I scooted out the door and steered the ol minivan toward donut-ville. Sadly the neon beacon cast only a cold shadow on the wet pavement outside.
Not being one to leave a sugar craving unsatiated, I ventured forth.  The thoroughly unhappy gal behind the counter, said "we otta dat", to every one of my request for donuts. If you hate donuts, please do not accept a job at a donut shop. I hate conformist, hence the fact that I've refused several offers to work at amberzombie and felch.  Since they were "outta" everything it seems, I left with a face full of cake donuts. They were good but, no better than the week old ones from K-Roger.
No majik, no wafting aromas. Just disgruntled underpaid counter help and cold neon.
It was a sad Saturday in donut-ville.

What more is there to say about Krispy Kreme doughnuts?  There is nothing like burning my fingers on HOT doughnuts NOW and I continue to be amazed at how I can squish an entire hot doughnut down enough to stuff the entire thing in my mouth (but I only do this with the first one).

I have recently rediscovered Krispy Kreme coffee.  This happened completely by mistake.  I headed out to run errands and left my to-go mug of home-brewed coffee sitting on my counter.  Since I had already made coffee, I refused to pay gourmet coffee house prices for my second choice option, and I happened to be near Krispy Kreme when I realized I had no coffee.  I hit the drive-thru and ordered a big ol' coffee and no doughnuts (just couldn't do it - hadn't worked out that day).  But, when I got my coffee and drove away, I took a sip and realized that it tastes like doughnuts!  And, it is doughnut-scented!  It was almost enough to give me a real doughnut fix.  Almost.

The only time I have ever heard my husband scream like a little girl was the first time we drove by the Krispy Kreme on Ponce and the hot sign was on.  We'd just moved to town and I had yet to experience the phenomenon that is my husband's love for a dozen hot glazed doughnuts.

The weirdest part is, I grew up right down the street from a Krispy Kreme - way up in Akron, Ohio - but I'd never experienced the dozen "hot" phenomenon.  So now I understand.  Even still, nothing does it for me like one of the creme-filled doughnuts.  Hmmm...we just fried this big, sweet disc of doughy goodness and put more icing/carbs on top....what else can we do to make it unhealthy?  I know - let's fill it with more icing!

Seriously, I love this location.  It is a 24 hour operation which means that as long as I live here, there will always be wonderful doughnuts just a two-minute drive away.  Life is good.

Hot donuts....hot donuts....

Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window...

...an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle (but it will poke my eye out).

The only disappointment is when the glowing sign is off and cold.  Oh, life is like that. Sometimes, at the height of our revelries, when our joy is at it's zenith, when all is most right with the world, the most unthinkable disasters decend upon us.

But it will be back on again....and this Yankee will cheat on Dunkin Donuts in order to seek it out.  You don't have to triple dog dare me to eat a Krispy Kreme.  The Krispy Kreme is appropriate for any time of the day or night.

I want to give this place a 3 or 4 stars due to the shaky service. Working in establishments where you're interacting with people, you would think SOME ONE would put a smile on there face. Everyone couldn't be having a bad day, everyday, can they?
BUT!...let's get real here, this is Krispy Kreme were talking about. WHO CARES who's working there? The "Hot" sign is on and I'm coming in. A hippo and chimp could be working the register and I wouldnt care. Just put some gloves on, pick my dozen glazed directly from the line and keep it moving.  I'm a southerner true to the core, as long as I can remember Krispy Kreme was THE doughnut spot everyone went to. I never had Dunkin Doughnuts until I was the age of 24 or 25 working in an office where someone brought them in. It's not even close in my opinion; K-K is king and always will be.

You ever had to bring in a box of Krispy Kreme for the office but by the time you get there, you've already killed 4 of them? Now you have 8 left to share with 9 people? Yeah, I've been known to do that. It's no secret around my office that "this guy" is not the one to trust when ordering Krisy Kreme.

Oh my God!!!  Who doesn't love KK?

If only they still made the Maple Iced doughnuts....  They are wrong for discontinuing them.  If you never had one, you don't know what you are missing.

Ask for one, so they will start making them again.

I just ate 6 of these, of a variety of sizes; my stomach is crying.

It's like a block from my house and I can't help it; once a week I need to partake in Donuts and Friend Chicken.

They're really, really, yummy, stuff, but every time I go there, the lady at the drive through looks like she wants to hit me in the face.  I'm not sure why.

And every time I leave the drive through, I cut the wheel and always bottom out on a sizable curb which is located next to said drive through.   Why such an abomination exists is beyond me.

Did you know there are scary prostitutes within a mile of Krispy Kreme?  They look like they came from a Northwest Indiana Trailer Park, and enjoy posing for me when I'm driving home from acting class.  Sometimes I throw donuts at them.

Mmmmm...Doughnuts!

When that fresh sign lights up, I sprint to this place only to literally drool over these tasty and fried little treats.

First, the dough gets pumped out into the doughnut shape and is left to rise for a few minutes.

Then, it gets plopped into the oil.

Next, it gets flopped over to create that evenly golden hue.

Then....and Then...Oh, It's my favorite part....!!!!!!!...it gets coated in the glossy sugary glaze! The blanket just covers the doughnut in a single woosh!

Oh, yum -gooey goodness!

The best part is that they have seasonal doughnuts like heart shaped ones in strawberry frosting for Valentine's Day or pumpkin spiced ones for Halloween.

The worst part is that they are always changing their hours. So don't get your hopes up if its 2 am and you think the take out window will be open because it might not be (I want to cry).

But if you haven't been to this Krispy Kreme and seen the making of magic, check it out sometime, you won't be disappointed!

Do I need to say more?  It's Krispy Kreme!  You cannot go wrong with Krispy Kreme, especially when the red sign that read "Hot Doughnuts."

So after dining at MF Sushibar, which is conveniently located on the same street, my boyfriend and I decided to take a walk.  Then we saw Krispy Kreme - with the red light on!  I insisted that we go in, but my stubborn boyfriend, who is not a fan of anything too sweet, was not fond of the idea.  But I dragged him anyway, and but him the Original Glazed - The classic.  Of course, he fell in love with them.

Krispy Kreme is a great place for groups and kids.  Everytime we went to Krispy Kreme, I see lines of kids leaned against the window, watching the doughnut making process.  In fact, I think the process is quite amusing and interesting!  So if you are in mood for something sweet, why not visit Krispy Kreme?

It was August 1998, before Krispy Kreme had spread like kudzu, blanketing the United States.  I had been going to grad school in Austin.  When the time came to head back to Atlanta, it was not a moment too soon.  My mom and brother had flown to Austin to help me drive back to Atlanta.  Oh what a trip it was!

We set out on the highway at night.  Only a few hours into our drive, this idiot pulled out onto the highway, perpendicular to traffic and not paying any attention to the cars zooming by.  I swerved my little Tercel into the next few lanes trying to avoid this drunkard.  I knew whatever happened, I couldn't slow down because my brother might slam into me from behind with the moving truck.  It was the nearest I have ever been to being in a horrific auto accident.  After this near miss, we exited the highway immediately.

Waxahachie, Texas.   We went to the first hotel - all booked up, some sort of softball tournament was in town.   Okay, hotel number 2.  They told us they had one room because someone else had just turned it down and given up their reservations.  WOOO HOOO!   We'll take it.  What we would find next could only be described as biblical.  The town was having a cricket infestation.  I mean there were literally hundreds of thousands of crickets everywhere.  The walls and ground were covered.  It was like a breathing, chirping carpet of crickets.  Had we not almost just died, we probably would have continued down the road.  But alas, we stayed.  I would wake several times in the night to find crickets in my hair!

The next morning we set out to continue our journey to Atlanta.  We stopped somewhere in Mississippi to get gas.  I opened the hood of my car to check the oil (the car had been having some "issues"). D'oh!  I forgot to put the oil cap back on when we were in Austin.  There was oil everywhere - all over the engine!  Oh lord, side trip to find a Toyota dealer and get a replacement cap.

Back on the road,  we had never seen so much rain in our lives.  We could barely even see to drive.  It was insane.  The storm seemed to be traveling along I-20 with us.  Would this trip ever be over?!  All I could think about was my new apartment in Virginia Highland and Krispy Kreme donuts.  After all, it was late night runs to the Krispy Kreme that had gotten me through 4 years at Emory.  I could not wait to be home!

Finally, we found ourselves rolling down Ponce.  There was no power anywhere.  Oh my lord!  The donuts!  The conveyor belt needs power!!!  What about my precious donuts?!!!!  We finally arrived at our destination.  The Hot Now sign was sadly dim.  Fortunately, they were open!  No power and they were still open!  The donuts have never tasted sweeter than on this day.

My partner and I parked here to go to the little Chinese place next door, only to find out that was a big mistake. Don't park in this lot unless you are going INTO Krispy Kreme! They will tow your car!!

It was funny, too, because they manager would not tell the tow guy to stop, even though we went in KK right after we ate for dessert.

Just a note about all Krispy Kremes: I can't eat inside, because I feel like I am inside a doughnut; the smell is over powering. Kind of like when you eat something really rich, you can only have a little bit? That's how it feels eating inside. Also, these damn doughnuts are so freaking good that you can just count on eating more than one; but be careful how many you eat, too many will make you sick!

Final note: If you are waiting in the drive thru in the middle of the night, and your friend is driving, and has probably had a little more than he should, if he rear ends the car in front of him slightly (seriously, NO damage), don't say anything and let him resolve it. Thank goodness he was able to smoothly.

If you have never had Krispy Kreme you must live under a rock.  Yum..I almost had an accident trying to make my way to Krispy Kreme when the "HOT NOW" sign was lit.  By the way, that's the best time to visit Krispy Kreme because you get the freshest of the freshest doughnuts!!

I like the original, chocolate iced and lemon-filled. But they have a lot of variety.   If you like milk with your doughnut, help yourself they sell milk.  You can either order inside or in the drive-thru.  They have areas inside if you want to stay a while.

My mom and I split a dozen one time and I ate all six of my doughnuts, because when they are hot they just melt in your mouth!  I don't recommend that, I paid for doing that later that night.

I would go to Krispy Kreme any day instead of eating those stale doughnuts they serve at Dunkin Donuts (yuck).

Krispy Kreme on Ponce is in many ways a southern experience. I honestly can't think of a single drive-through donut shop north of Virginia. Needless to say, I love the south. This place is even funnier if you go inside. You can watch the donuts in their glory as they filter down the assembly line, grease glistening in the harsh florescent light. There are even free paper hats that say "I love Krispy Kreme" across the front. Adorable. The donuts are each less than a dollar. It's amazing to think how many calories one could consume in a matter of seconds. I try to not come here often in spite of the temptation. Did I mention this establishment is open 24 hours? Dangerous.

Krispy Kreme donuts are unfortunately like Junior Mints for me...it's entirely feasible for me to eat a whole box of them without noticing it until they're all gone. Mmmm....three thousand calories in a box. I stick to the classic glazed donuts; I know they have lots to choose from but the old standard has me hooked. The neon hot donuts now sign is the proverbial flame to my inner moth-man.

This is one of the cleanest and nicest K.K. locations I've been to. Beats the heck out of the grungy old one in Florida I grew up swinging through on my way to the beach. I used to know someone who lived in an apartment down the hill behind this Krispy Kreme, he told me the smell of donuts greets you every day when you walk out the door in the morning. They call it Krispy Valley. I hope that Krispy Kreme's recovery from over-expansion and carb counters keeps it going in the South at the very least.

I'm going against popular opinion here ( I tend to do that sometimes) and saying that although I appreciate the availability of a hot donut, all  I taste here is grease.  In the age of limiting trans-fats these things are repeat offenders.  Call me a Yankee, but donut to donut I prefer Dunkin's.

My husband thinks that one donut is the same as all the rest, I think sometimes a mans taste buds are dead as soon as they hit 40 when its chips and beer in front of the TV on football night. My friends and I love krispy kreme and always will. I pray they will be around long enough so when my granddaughters have a craving for krispy kremes and chocolate milk in the middle of the night they will have one close by.

I think I'm the only person alive who likes Krispy Kremes better when they're NOT hot.  Go figure.  I'm more of a Dunkin' Donuts fan, but I must say that visiting a Krispy Kreme shop is quite the experience ...

See the doughnut.  Watch it get covered in glaze.  Get a free one.  Eat it.

You can't eat just one, especially when they are hot.  What else could I be referring to other than the signature glazed doughnuts at Krispy Kreme.  They are so delicious, sugary and lightweight that you could eat a doughnut in less than three bites.  This is the only place that serves doughnuts that make my teeth hurt but its worth it cause I keep going back for more.

This is more of an icon than an Atlanta dining destination. The building has been here forever and is one of the only places you can actually watch the birth of a glazed donut. It is quite a touching experience. It brought tears to my eyes to watch the sugar coating draped onto the doughy goodness. Yum! Don't miss this treat and don't worry about planning the date and time of your voyage to this sweet shop, it's open 24 hours a day.

What can I say... Krispy Kreme is evil!  I don't know how they do it, but their doughnuts are little pieces of heaven... but they're still evil and very addicting!  The one on Ponce is definitely the place to go.  Just get a dozen hot glazed and a Mayfield Milk Chug and you're good to go.

There is something about Krispy Kreme that is wickedly delicious - you know that it's not good for you, but, oh, its so good.

Too bad they are having problems. I hope they pull through.

At any event, no big issues with this Krisy Kreme. If you want to apostatize from your diet, this is the place to go to. :D

This is the donut that I judge all other donuts by and none I've ever tasted can compare.  There is nothing like getting the glazed donuts hot off the line.  I can inhale 3 too quick to talk about it.  I am really not a donut eater for the most part but when it comes to hot glazed Krispy Kreme donuts.... OMG... nothing like 'em anywhere!!!
